Julie Zickefoose: Nature Artist & Writer
High Summer Henslow’s Commemorative Print
To commemorate BWD’s rebirth, I wanted to paint something very special, rare, small and tough, prevailing against difficult odds. A good bird in anyone’s book, the Henslow’s sparrow fit the bill. Purple is the color of resurrection, and the ironweed he’s clinging to is well-named—tenacious, robust—like us. We’re back, and better than ever.
I’m issuing a special giclée on matte-finish fine art watercolor paper, numbered and hand-signed by the artist. This is not a limited edition. In a giclée run, prints are pulled as they are ordered, which conserves paper and resources. Image size is 9.5” x 12”, which is suitable for a 12”x 16” mat and frame.
Julie Zickefoose, artist/writer from Whipple, Ohio, painted her first cover for Bird Watcher’s Digest in 1986. She has been intimately involved with the magazine since 1991, proofreading, editing, and contributing writing and art. High Summer Henslow’s is her 30th cover.
