Bleeding heart, sun coming through it
They don't last long, just until summer, zinnia time
and then they melt away as if they were never there
and I plant other things where their leaves once spread
but I do leave a sign over the roots to remind me
that there's a bleeding heart there
And not to dig too deeply.
